Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie satisfied with performance in 2012 470 World Championships
New Zealand’s Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie performed brilliantly in the beginning of the season and were able to win the 2012 New Zealand 470 National Championship.
The Kiwi regatta victory did boost their confidence and they launched their boat on Barcelona waters with the hopes to make an appearance in the 2012 470 World Championship.
They clinched a couple of races in the beginning for their run of the championship but it did not help them to claim the top spot. In the middle of the championship, the Kiwi pair placed themselves on the third podium place but failed to maintain their hold
on that position and in the final races they slipped down on fourth podium place with 74 points.
The weather conditions at the Barcelona racing area were also a major cause of their fall in the regatta. The winds were absent on a couple of days which really shattered the confidence of many teams and they tumbled down in the overall standings.
However, the New Zealand team is quite satisfied with their form in the regatta and is looking forward towards the next competitions.
The pair clinched a silver and bronze medal in the previous two World Championships and was aiming for the gold this year but they failed to achieve their goal. Nevertheless, they are looking forward to make an appearance next year and aim for the gold.
