Jo-Jo Reyes loses focus as third inning fiasco costs Toronto Blue Jays a victory
The Texas Rangers took on the Toronto Blue Jays for the third time in their home series in Arlington. The visitors brought on Jo-Jo Reyes to face off against home pitcher, Derek Holland.
Coming off two consecutive victories, the Canadian outfit were looking to move for a clean sweep triumph over the Texans.
Unfortunately, their problems on the field would translate into a serious problem as the club lost 6–7 to the hosts. Their recent tally showcases 22 runs against the Rangers so far in the season but their mild performance on the ground was less than comforting
for the team.
Reliever Octavio Dotel would concede the all important run to the Rangers but the situation would not have arisen if a bad third inning did not catch on.
Reyes looked well in the first two innings but the situation got worse, once Edward Encarnacion made a throwing error in the third to put Yorvit Torrealba at first base. After that, it was all weary play from the Toronto pitcher. The hurler swung out Mitch
Moreland but that led to a hit pitch that landed Ian Kinsler on first.
It was after that the Rangers pressed on with running hits from Elvis Andrus, Michael Young Nelson Cruz, and, Mike Napoli that brought on six runs for the home team.
"He was efficient", Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "He gets two quick outs. Before we knew it, he couldn't shut the inning off. When you see a six-run spot, things have gotten away from you".
The ball thrower spoke on his performance. He was eventually relieved by Carlos Villanueva.
"One pitch, I'm out of it", said Reyes. "I couldn't make that pitch. There were mistakes. I have to step up and pick up the team and make my pitch and get out of the inning. It all snowballed in that inning".
Reyes earned no runs due to the error in the field. When it seemed as if the Blue Jays were back in the game in the top seventh, Mitch Moreland went in for the home team to smash a match winning home run.
