Jo-Jo Reyes sparks as Toronto Blue Jays outclass Cleveland Indians, 11-1 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ starter, Jo-Jo Reyes pitched dominantly throughout the game with an ERA of 4.15 and struck-out nine batters in the Blue Jays’ 11-1 win against the Cleveland Indians at Rogers Centre, Toronto on May 30.
Reyes gave away just one run on eight hits including one earned run and permitted four walks on 121 pitches. Reyes was excited after the win and said, “It was just an awesome game. I guess this was the way to do it if I had to choose.”
First two innings of the game passed without a score as the pitchers restricted the batters by pitching in good line. The Jays opened their scoring account by adding two runs in the third inning and got an initial 2-0 lead. Jayson Nix hit a solo homer (419
feet) to left-field and Rajai Davis scored the second run of the inning.
Both teams scored runs in the third inning as the Indians added their first and final run while the Jays contributed seven runs. Shelley Duncan was the only man who played his role for the Indians by hitting a one-run homer (431 feet) to left-field. J.P.
Arencibia, Aaron Hill, Eric Thames, Davis, Yunel Escobar, Corey Patterson and Jose Bautista each made one run at the bottom of the fourth inning to complete a seven-run campaign.
After fourth inning, the score-board moved to 9-1. During the fifth inning, the Jays extended their lead 11-1 when Thames and Davis posted two runs collectively. Escobar singled to shallow right-field and Thames completed a single run while Davis added a
run on the sacrifice fly of Patterson to left-field position.
Last four innings were score-less due to impressive throws of the pitchers. The Blue Jays’ Manager John Farrell praised Reyes for his solid pitching and said, “This night belongs to Jo-Jo. Just an outstanding game on his part.”
The Indians’ Manager Manny Acta was frustrated with the performance of his team. He said, “We're scuffling this week. That was quite a shot. Duncan's a very strong guy, but it only counts for one run. It doesn't matter how far you hit it.”
Fausto Carmona was too expensive as he allowed nine runs on nine hits with seven earned runs in four inning pitches.
