Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eases past Lukas Lacko to reach the fourth round – Wimbledon Championships 2012
World number six, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, had no difficulties in dumping the 24-year-old unseeded Slovak opponent, Lukas Lacko, in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships on Saturday afternoon. The fifth seeded tall
Frenchman registered a thumping straight sets victory, settling the final score line at 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, in his favour to enter the final-16 of the Grand Slam.
It was already anticipated that the 60th ranked Slovak would have a brutal thrashing at the hands of the French powerhouse in the third round brawl and it proved to be real. Lacko proved to be a mismatch for the class
and belligerence of Tsonga, who absolutely devastated him in the three-setter to end his voyage at the All England Tennis and Croquet Club. It was the first time he faced the world number six in a singles encounter and couldn’t do much to restrain the Frenchman’s
onslaught, eventually submitting in the third set of the match.
A lot more aces were anticipated from the 27-year-old French but he fired just seven in the entire matchup. Tsonga delivered his first serve with 66 per cent precision and dropped just nine points on it, clinching 42 out of 51,
en route to victory. He converted four of his five break opportunities to take the batter of Lacko, who utterly failed to register a single break point in the contest, frittering away three priceless chances to finish on the losing side in the end.
The fifth seed French didn’t hesitate from launching frequent forays to the net and converting juicy volleys into cross-court winners. He secured 20 out of 25 net points, whilst his counterpart could barely win eight out of 12.
Tsonga belted 27 cracking winners in total and Lacko followed him with 17 before submitting in the third set of the match.
Tsonga was relatively slower to take off in the opening set and bought some time before getting his eye set in the contest. Once getting into his winning groove, the Frenchman never looked back at the Slovak opponent and raced
away to victory in style.
The world number six had a memorable run at Wimbledon Championships last year and reached the semi-final round by beating the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the quarters. Although he lost to the eventually champion, Novak Djokovic,
in the round of four, yet his victory over Federer in a Grand Slam quarter-final is remembered till date.
