Jo-Wilfried Tsonga enters the final; ousts Tomas Berdych in semis – ATP World Tour Finals 2011
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, French world No.6, stands once again, against the Swiss Maestro as he brought down his semi-final rival of the ATP World Tour Finals, Tomas Berdych, Czech world No.7, in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, in an hour and
34 minutes of hard indoor court battle at the O2 Arena, London on Saturday, 26th of November.
Berdych made it to the semis after he got lucky against David Ferrer and on the other side, Tipsarevic took back home the top seed and compatriot, Novak Djokovic to give the Czech a chance to make his mark. Tsonga, on the other
hand, ousted the struggling world No.2, Rafael Nadal in his journey to the semi-final round of the event.
Moving on with the match, the two got a standing ovation from the crowd, however, Tsonga was considered the hot favourite for the fixture. Continuing, the Frenchman won the service toss and took his side to serve the opener. Serving
out game one of the fixture, Tsonga took the lead, however, Czech world No.7 followed with a winner to level the scores at 1-1.
Rallying down games next, the two levelled up again at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before the Frenchman made his move. Serving out game seven, 4-3, Tsonga broke Berdych in the eighth game, 5-3, and served out game nine to finish off the
opening set of the match in his favour, 6-3.
Continuing with the fixture, Berdych served the second set opener forging down his opening serve to lead, 1-0. Tsonga replied instantly with a winner evening up the scores at 1-1. Winning a game each, both levelled up again at
2-2 before the match flared up.
Tsonga continued with his serve winning game five, 3-2, followed up by the ‘Berdman’ levelling up right away, 3-3. The next two games came with breakpoint wins for each of the two as Tsonga broke in game seven and Berdych in the
eighth to level up, four all. Carrying on, a win each for the two, service winner, led the two to even up again, 5-5.
Berdych stood to serve next, however, fell short of making his mark as his French rival broke him in game eleven and served out game twelve winning the set 7-5, and the fixture in straight sets to make his way into the final round
of the event.
Making his way through, Tsonga stands in the final showdown of the ATP World Tour Finals and against Roger Federer. Frenchman would certainly play his best ever this time as Federer has been in best of his form lately and will
at all cost defend his title.
