Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is ready to take up Andy Murray’s challenge – Tennis News
French number one, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, will be fighting everyone at the arena on the eve of Friday to defy all the odds and pull up an upset against the number one Briton, Andy Murray, in the semi-final of the Wimbledon Championships.
He will be a visitor playing a host top ranked player and the crowd support will definitely enhance his misery but the big booming Frenchman is still convinced to put up a show of his lifetime in order to attain the eternal satisfaction
of beating a superior ranked player and more importantly reach the grand finale of the tournament.
Both players are just two steps away from capturing their maiden Grand Slam title of their career. There is a possibility that neither of them will have their glorious moment but one of them is definitely going to be just a step
away on the eve of Sunday. However, Friday’s match will decide which one of the two contenders will book a berth in the final showdown.
Talking about the semi-final battle with Murray, Tsonga stated, “There will be extra pressure on him because it’s not Rafa and it’s me. But I’m still a good player and I’m sure Andy knows that. So for him it’s going to be difficult
and I wouldn’t want to be standing in his place. I respect a lot what he has done already because he is a fighter and he has done, already, some good things. But here in England he is alone and all the pressure is on him all the time.”
Tsonga is playing through pain having injured his figure during the tournament. However, his eyes were wide open at the loss of the Spanish tennis ace, Rafael Nadal, in the second set and he confessed, “(When Nadal went out) I
thought, ‘OK, it has opened up, but I still have to get through.”
Murray is expected to win the match considering his prior ranking, familiar atmosphere and home support that he will get at the arena. However, when there is a lot of pressure to perform, players usually choke and underdogs rise
up to clasp on to the big opportunity. Tsonga is an underdog in the match and he needs to craft an entirely new roadmap to power down the fourth ranked Briton.
It will be a tough match and the fifth ranked Frenchman has no plans of bowing down early. So, Murray will have his work cut out on the eve of Friday.
