Jo-Wilfried Tsonga praises Jamie Baker – Tennis News
World number five, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, believes that the Briton wildcard entrant, Jamie Baker, has potential to become the future of France. Despite posting resounding straight sets 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Becker on Tuesday in
AEGON Championship; Tsonga believes that the youngster can easily improve his game and rise up to the next level with some courage and attention.
The French tennis ace, Tsonga said, “Jamie is a good player. He is solid for his ranking. Maybe this sounds strange, but he maybe needs to be a little bit crazier, relax and enjoy what he's doing.” The Frenchman is the hot favourite
to win the title at Queen’s club London especially after the shocking first round exit of the Briton number one, Andy Murray, who was the top seed of the tournament.
World is mocking the likes of the fourth ranked Briton. However, Tsonga have some other remarks to make about the match between his compatriot, Nicolas Mahut, and the Scot superstar, Andy Murray. He stated, “If Andy lost today,
it's not because he was not good. It was maybe also because Nicolas was unbelievable. Everybody knows he's able to play fantastic tennis on grass, and he did it today. He has played already in a final here. On grass he's maybe one of the best players in the
world."
It seems like top seeds are finding it difficult to adjust to the transition from clay to grass. Tsonga has been in terrific form recently. He reached the quarter-final of the Roland Garros French Open and was on the verge of beating
the world number one, Novak Djokovic; squandered five match points and lost a golden opportunity for making a name for himself. However, he did well throughout the tournament; played two epic five setters especially against the Swiss 18th seed,
Stanislas Wawrinka.
The Frenchman started the year with a title in Doha, reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and won both the round rubbers matches of the Davis Cup tie against Canada to help his country reach the next stage.
He reached the semi-final in Dubai; quarter-final in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. He was a bit unlucky to lose in the final set tie-breaker in the third round of Madrid. The tour of Rome ended with a quarter-final loss
at the hands of the Serb number one, Djokovic. So, overall his performances are very fascinating this year and a title is due to him.
