Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ready to beat ‘anyone’ in the 2013 ATP season – Tennis News
French number one, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, has been on the ATP World Tour for quite some years now but he is still to end his Grand Slam title drought. The world number eight had some brilliant cameos in the recent season but couldn’t
perform wonders in the Major tournaments. However, the 27-year-old Frenchman is confident of achieving his goal of Grand Slam glory in the upcoming ATP season.
"For the moment, it's the goal to win a major," Tsonga said. "Try to beat some tough guys because this year I didn't beat them and win a grand slam. We will try to be in the top four. To reach the sun you have to pass the moon.
I will try to be the No.1 anyway. I feel like I have a lot of energy and will do my best to get there."
Tsonga has not been taking any training from a professional coach for the past 18 months but he finally joined forces with the Australian trainer, Roger Rasheed, last month. The tall Frenchman believes that world number one spot
is very achievable by him in the upcoming season and a grand Slam title win will immensely assist him to reach there.
"He's a good kid, has got a good head on his shoulders and I think it's always exciting to have that talent to dispose of," said Rasheed. "Jo believes that if he puts things together, he has the ability."
Tsonga’s power hitting is considered to be one of the most accurate ones in the world. His extra height and long arms give him superfluous reach during rallies, converting possible winners into tantalizing cross-court returns.
No doubt Tsonga is one of the best in the business but his performances against the ‘Fantastic Four’ haven’t been that much impressive. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal have been sharing Grand Slam titles among themselves for the
past few years, giving no opportunity to any of the lower ranked contender to step forward and claim glory. With Nadal struggling with his fitness and Federer getting over 31 years of age, it seems to be an opening for Tsonga to bag his maiden Grand Slam title
in 2013 ATP season.
