Jo-Wilfried Tsonga talks about the Davis Cup match against Ryan Harrison – Tennis News
French tennis icon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, is going to take on the likes of Ryan Harrison who is making his debut in the Davis Cup. He will represent the host nation, America, in the quarter-final battle in Monte Carlo on Friday.
Tsonga is not going to take it easy and go out with a plan to take down his opponent. In an interview, he stated, “It will be his (Harrison) first Davis Cup match. I know how that feels and it's special. I'm going to pile on the
pressure from the outset to see how he reacts. He's a promising young player, ambitious, a fighter, who could be on fire. I'm not going to underestimate him.”
World number six, Tsonga, further added, “I'm used to this pressure and I've a positive ratio in these matches where I'm favourite. Even if for the moment I haven't had much success yet on clay I grew up on this surface and I know
I can be very good on it. I think I'm going to have a good match whatever happens.”
The Frenchman will be leading his team to a tough tie against America. John Isner is going to the lead the American squad. He will be assisted by the number one doubles team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. Harrison is scheduled to
meet another French tennis ace, Gilles Simon, who replaced the injured Gael Monfils.
Harrison, just 19-years-old, is delighted to have been selected as the representative of his country. He plans to take full advantage of the opportunity and make a name for himself with eye-startling performances in the two scheduled
matches. If he manages to win one of the two battles, it will be a bonus for the American side.
Isner needs to step up and prove his worth to the business especially his home fans. He has already registered upsets against the likes of Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the previous Davis Cup tie. He has also stunned everyone
by defeating the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-final of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
The winner of this tie will take on the team of Spain or Austria in the final. Spain definitely has the best team in the world with the fifth ranked player, David Ferrer, leading the side. Austria will have to come up with a monumental
performance to upset Spain and make it to the final.
