Jo-Wilfried Tsonga trounces Lukas Rosol in round two – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2012
French number one, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, eased past the Czech tennis star, Lukas Rosol, in straight sets at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2012 on Wednesday. He joggled up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the world number 96 to advance into the quarter-finals
at Aviation Club Tennis Centre.
The fourth seed showed top class performance at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 series event and outclassed Rosol in their first meeting. He not only improved to a 1-0 record at the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against the Czech
but also moved a step closer to bag his ninth career title.
"I played against him last week," said the French ace after the match. "I lost it. It was not easy. I played a good match, but he played well. I know tomorrow it's going to be the same. It's going to be difficult for sure."
Ranked 5th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Tsonga thundered into the opening set and went into a five-game killing spree before the Czech could hold on. Despite losing his serve in the seventh game, the French held his serve
once more and bagged the opener with a 6-3 win.
The 26-year-old French carried his momentum into the following set and earned the critical break in the opening game. He maintained consistency in his game and swiped in entire serves, ultimately clinching the set with a 6-4 score line.
All in all, the seed smashed 10 aces and clobbered a higher first serve share of 64 per cent as opposed to Rosol’s 60 per cent. He also clinched 32 out of 38 points on it and converted three out of seven break chances to his advantage.
Next up for Tsonga is the Argentinean number one, Juan Martin Del Potro, who dumped the Kazakh qualifier, Andrey Golubev, in straight sets to secure this spot.
The second seed Roger Federer will join Tsonga in the quarter-finals. He broke Feliciano Lopez’s serve once in each set to manipulate this 7-5, 6-3 success.
"I just tried to focus on my serve, made sure from that end I wasn't doing any stupid stuff, and at the end I got a bit of a read on his serve," said the Swiss Maestro.
Federer will next confront the high flying Russian, Mikhail Youzhny, who upset sixth seeded Mardy Fish in straight sets to book this place.
