Joachim B Hansen blames putting for his distance from the top at the Rolex Trophy
The European Challenge Tour’s Rolex Trophy has entered the final round and Joachim B Hansen remains bogey-free with 16 birdies and 2 eagles added to his score. Still, he trails Kristoffer Broberg, the 54-hole leader, with a three-stroke deficit.
For Hansen himself, it was not surprising, as he believes that his putting needs huge improvements, if he wants to be at the top at the end of the tournament.
Like his first two rounds, his performance on the back nine of the course was strong and he posted four birdies against two on the front nine for a six-under par 66.
The only difference was the eagle that he posted in each of the first two rounds. Otherwise, he would have struck a hat-trick of 65 in the first three rounds of the tournament.
“I’m a little disappointed with my putting, because I gave myself so many birdie chances. But hopefully I can take a few more of them tomorrow,” he said. “I was in a similar position going into the final day last week and was unable to finish it off, but
I’ve learned from that and I hope tomorrow will be different”.
“It’s good that we’re playing with amateurs because that helps you to relax, so I’m looking forward to it,” he added.
He now plans to focus on his game on the greens, in order to take down Broberg, who is currently enjoying the best days of his golfing career.
Broberg won two of four tournaments that he has played so far in his rookie season on the Challenge Tour. Therefore, it will be a tough challenge for the 22-year-old Dane to outshine him at the end of the final round on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Daniel Vancsik once again gave an indication of challenging his own record, set in the opening round on Thursday, at 10-under par 62.
He opened up on the back nine of the course with a birdie. The run of five straight birdies starting from the 13th hole cleared his intentions and he made a strong charge on the leaderboard once again.
However, he slowed down on the front nine and managed to score only three birdies against a lone bogey for an eight-under par 64. He currently holds the fourth spot with a 19-under par overall score.
