Joachim B Hansen finishes fourth in the European Challenge Tour Rankings
Joachim B Hansen, who played his rookie season this year on the European Challenge Tour, finished fourth in the tour rankings, after finishing tied for the second position at the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
The tournament was held at the San Domenico Golf course, featuring the top-45 players in the European Challenge Tour Rankings.
It was a great week in Italy, where the top-21 players celebrated their promotion to the elite European Tour for the 2013 golf season.
According to the European Tour’s qualifying policy, the top-20 players to end the season were supposed to receive the playing cards for the upcoming year.
However, Kristoffer Broberg, who finished the season ranked second in the list, already qualified for the bigger stage through four victories in his rookie season.
As a result, another card was awarded to the 21st player in the rankings, at the end of the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
Hansen, who started off his final round campaign with a two-stroke lead over the field, bogeyed the second hole.
He then bounced back with a couple of straight birdies on the third and the fourth hole and added another shot on the seventh hole.
On the ninth hole, he failed to save the par and conceded the second bogey of the day. Standing on the 13th tee, he was still two strokes ahead of Espen Kofstad.
Hansen double-bogeyed the 13th hole, while Kofstad recorded a birdie to clinch the lead. Hansen tried to make a comeback with a birdie on the 15th hole and shared the lead once again.
However, Kofstad added another shot to his scorecard on the 17th hole, which proved to be the winning shot for the Norwegian.
“It’s unlucky for Joachim,” Kofstad said. “He played really nicely today and has done all week. He just caught a flier on the 13th and was unlucky not to hole the birdie putt on the last. I’m sure he will win one soon”.
Despite recording a decent fourth-place finish in the rankings, Hansen was disappointed with his finish in the tournament.
The 22-year-old stated that he made the wrong choice of clubs on the 13th hole and paid the price in the end.
He stated that he wanted to end his rookie season on top of the rankings. However, a small bad move ruined his chances of becoming the best player on the tour.
"The double-bogey at the 13th was choosing the wrong club, that’s all, and it cost me,” he said.
“I am really disappointed. There are so many things that could have been possible if I had won. It will take a while before I start thinking about next year and everything else. I just want this day to be over”.
