Joachim Bardrum earns Men 14-15 200m butterfly gold: Day one – 2012 NSW Metropolitan Championships
Joachim Bardrum of AUBN earned gold medal of the Long Course 200m butterfly in Men 14-15 year old class on initial day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) Metropolitan Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday, March 3.
Bardrum devastated all struggles of his challengers who were eyeing the title of distant butterfly event and made his way to the podium for gold medal.
The 15-year-old Bardrum faced no trouble in proving ascendancy over his competitors, as he remained dominant over them throughout the four-lap event.
With his fascinating efforts, AUBN’s swimmer completed his first lap of the event in a time of 28.61 seconds. He remained considerably ahead of his team-member, Wonho Kim, who covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 30.27 seconds.
Bardrum continued his dominance in the next round, where he demonstrated his notable efforts and enveloped his first half of the race in a time of 1 minute and 00.81 seconds. His laudable efforts placed him almost three seconds ahead of the 14-year-old Kim,
who ended his initial half of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 03.79 seconds.
The third lap saw gruelling efforts of Kim, who struggled hard to overpower his leading swimmer but Bardrum’s scintillating form appeared hard to accomplish and he ended his third lap with a timing of 1 minute and 34.02 seconds. Subsequently, Kim remained
2.85 seconds slower from him and concluded his third round with an effort of 1 minute and 36.87 seconds.
With his immaculate efforts, Bardrum succeeded in extending his lead in the final lap as he sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.31 seconds. He remained considerably faster from the last year’s titleholder
of the event, Brandon Grochala of LIVP, who pocketed the same in 2 minutes and 08.93 seconds.
He was trailed by Kim, who secured silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.13 seconds while Hayden Hinds-Sydenham of SOSC snatched bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.34 seconds.
Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
