Joachim Fischer, Christinna Pedersen hold Mixed Doubles trophy in 2013 Malaysia Open
Mixed Doubles partners Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark showed brilliant coordination in the final round of Maybank Malaysia Open and clutched the trophy on January 20, 2013.
They were up against the native campaigners Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in the local badminton arena of Kuala Lumpur and this encounter remained in full swing for 44 minutes.
The Danish duo showed superior badminton craft on the court and wrapped this showdown with an impressive result of 21-13 and 21-18.
On the other hand, the Malaysian players failed to serve the notice of their potential and surrendered in both segments.
In the first set of match, Joachim and Christinna did not give their competitors enough time to get settled and confounded them with an intensive attack.
They established a decent lead immediately in the beginning and then capitalised this early advantage to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position.
In the establishing rallies, both partners played impeccable badminton and bagged many valuable points. They kept on making progress at steady pace and piled a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, Peng Soon and Liu Ying made every effort to counterbalance the situation but they could not hit the mark.
They prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies but then few back-to-back mistakes put their expedition to halt.
The twosome of Joachim and Christinna did not squander this opportunity and tipped the scale in their favour.
They registered a winning margin of 21-13 and started the second set of the match with a psychological edge.
Next game started with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders put all they had to gain an early advantage but then the Danish shuttlers’ magic prevailed.
They unleashed a flurry of productive strokes and managed to place a decent figure of 11 before the announcement of break.
Apart from couple of rallies, the latter part of the game was also dominated by Joachim and Christinna as they maintained a significant difference on the points table. They put an overwhelming score of 21-18 and reserved top spot on the victory stand.
