Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen claim Mixed Doubles title at Swiss Open 2013
Denmark’s top players Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen continued their positive performance and wrapped up the Mixed Doubles title at the Swiss Open 2013 on Sunday, March 17, in Switzerland.
The in-form Joachim and Christinna, who were the second seeded shuttlers in the Mixed Doubles main draw of the championship, played with a great level of precision and managed to overpower China’s Zhang Nan and Tang Jinhua in the final encounter by taking
44 minutes.
The impressive Danish shuttlers played with a tremendous level of energy as they managed to outplay their experienced Chinese challengers in straight games in a thrilling fashion with a close 22-20 and 21-19 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Nan and Jinhua played with a decent level throughout the contest but failed to live up to expectations in the ending points and eventually lost the match with a close margin.
In the opening game of this contest, both couples played with impressive precision and they managed to stay close at the initial stage of the set.
The impressive speed of shuttlers and the cracking sound of powerful shots grabbed the attention of the crowd all the way in the opening half. Both sides remained close on the board until the end of the opening half.
After the one-minute break, the match continued in similar fashion as they played with impressive fashion and reached at the breath-taking stage of 20-20.
At this crucial stage, the higher ranked Joachim and Christinna played with complete control in their shots and managed to wrap up the opening set with a close 22-20 score on the board.
In the following set, both sides again were toe-to-toe in the arena as they played with staggering skill and pushed each other in all areas of the court.
Until the interval in the first game, the score remained close as no side could manage a clear lead on the scoreboard.
After the break, Joachim and Christinna started to control things as they played positive and controlled badminton from all areas. In the ending points, the Danish couple played with confidence and took the game with a close total of 21-19 and ended up the
match in straight sets.
