Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen win Mixed Doubles crown at Copenhagen Masters
Denmark’s best shuttlers, Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen, have ended the current year in style as they have won the Mixed Doubles crown at the 2011 Copenhagen Masters.
In the final showdown, they defeated Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam on Thursday, December 29, in Denmark.
Joachim and Christinna, who have occupied 3rd position in the Mixed Doubles world rankings, played wonderful badminton and thrashed their Thai challengers without losing even a single game. They took 39 minutes in the court to overpower their
opponents in a straight-set contest.
The Thai couple had no answer to the attacking game of their Danish rivals and lost the match without producing considerable performance in both sets.
The higher ranked Danish couple showed no mercy to their Thai opponents in the first set and won it easily. In the second game, Prapakamol and Thoungthongkam put up good resistance but not enough to overpower their in-form opponents. The Danish duo took
the second game with a decent score.
In the opening game of the match, Joachim and Christinna played fast and controlled badminton and built pressure on their opponents. The Thai pair started their campaign in a shaky way as they played defensive game which helped their rivals to take over
the control of the pace.
Joachim and Christinna continued their stunning run in the match as they did not let their opponents to level the score even for a single time in the opening half. Until the break, the Danish duo was going far ahead of Thai couple at 11-6.
After the break, Joachim and Christinna continued their roller-coaster performance and did not spare even a single chance for their Thai challengers in the whole set. They finished the opening game in an emphatic fashion with a one-sided margin of 21-13.
In the second game, the higher ranked Danish shuttlers established their supremacy in the game from the starting points and remained ahead until the score reached at 15-12. Thai duo elevated their play at this stage and remained successful in levelling the
score by reaching at 15-15.
At this stage, Joachim and Christinna again occupied the driving seat and dictated the pace of rallies. They ended the second game with a 21-17 score on the board. The end result of this 39-minute title match was 21-13 and 21-17.
