Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen win Mixed Doubles semi-final of Copenhagen Masters
Denmark’s top seeded shuttlers, Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen, have tamed Indonesia’s Nova Widianto and Pia Bernadeth in the Mixed Doubles semi-final showdown of 2011 Copenhagen Masters, on Tuesday, December 27, in Denmark.
The in-form Fischer and Pedersen have been placed at number three in the Mixed Doubles world rankings. They played flawless badminton in the semi-final contest against Widianto and Bernadeth and won it in an emphatic fashion.
The Danish couple showed no mercy to Indonesian challengers and finished both games of this semi-final encounter by taking just 30 minutes of the court time. The Indonesians failed to deliver impressive performance and bowed down to the higher ranked Danish
shuttlers without any fight.
In the opening game of this battle, Fischer and Pedersen played with confidence and dominated the game in the front-court area. They refused to give points at the net as their speed was impressive in taking the bard from the tape of net.
The Indonesians did not play well as they returned many weak lobs which helped the Danish couple to win easy points and establish their domination in the game.
Fischer and Pedersen dictated the pace of rallies and maintained pressure on their Indonesian rivals. They did not drop the pace of game and took a superb lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Fischer and Pedersen continued playing attacking badminton and extended their lead without facing any resistance from the Indonesian duo. The Danish couple won the first set with a fabulous 21-8 score on the board.
In the second game, Widianto and Bernadeth played well at the net and managed to remain close until the score reached at 6-6. At this stage, Fischer and Pedersen geared up their speed and occupied the driving seat with their impressive smashes and net killings.
Fischer and Pedersen did not spare any chance to earn points in the whole second game. The Indonesian shuttlers tried to reduce the deficit but lost their control over the pace of rallies.
Danish couple remained on track and took the second set with a striking score of 21-13. The end result of this semi-final battle was 21-8 and 21-13.
