German national team manager Joachim Low reckons that Bayern Munich are as good as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Low was talking in the aftermath of the Barcelona-Madrid game, where he was invited by the Madrid officials to witness one of Spain’s domestic classics.
The match took place on Saturday, December 10, at the Bernabeu with the Catalan giants winning by a comfortable 3-1 margin.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal for the home side. The combination of Alexis Sanchez, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas piled up misery on the hosts.
Low witnessed the entire game and congratulated Barcelona on their away win. He was delighted to see the Spanish champions winn without a major contribution from Lionel Messi, who has been their trump card in majority of the games.
The German manager, at the same time, also opined that the Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, are not far from matching the class of Barcelona and Madrid. He told that Jupp Heynckes' men have been performing way better this season compared to the last one
and could better one of these two sides in their possible Champions League meeting.
He praised the Munich players on their consistency throughout this campaign and urged them to continue performing the same way if they want to beat the top Spanish and other European outfits.
While taking to Suddeutsche Zeitung, the tactician further enthused:
"So far this season, Barcelona and Real Madrid are at the highest level. This includes comparisons in England, where I've seen some games. But let's not forget Bayern Munich. Bayern are capable of playing at that level."
Low backed Bayern to defeat Barcelona in the Champions League and reach the final of the competition, which is to be played at Allianz-Arena. He also hoped to see Bastian Schweinsteiger back amongst the ranks after the midfielder was sidelined due to a collarbone
fracture.
The boss also reserved praise for Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, who has transformed Los Blancos into a commanding unit since taking over from Manuel Pellegrini in 2010.
"Real Madrid have become one unit, capable of coping with Barcelona. It says a lot about the coach." Low concluded.
