The German national team boss has claimed that the team’s focus is on defence which he feels needs some improvement.

Low has insisted that Germany will have to work hard defensively in training if they have to achieve the results. He admitted that Die Mannschaft were not at their best in the Euro 2012 qualifiers also and is worried about some
of the player’s injury problems.

Low stated that the team needs to work hard ahead of the tournament and the main field to work on is the defence. He insisted that he will consider his options once the Bayern Munich players return from the break to training and
admitted that he will discuss it with the captain, Philipp Lahm.
“I think we have some considerable work to do in defence ahead of the EURO. Our defensive work is not complete – we weren't exactly brilliant last year either. We need to wait until the Bayern players turn up. Then I'll speak to
Philipp about what he thinks,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Mertesacker claimed that he will have to fight for his place in the first team despite having considerable experience at the international stage. He admitted that there are some very talented young players and
the competition is tough.
“I've played at all the last three tournaments, but that doesn’t matter. The competition for places is fierce and I need to prove myself like everyone else,” he concluded.
Per Mertesacker has made a total of 79 appearances for Die Mannschaft and has scored once for the country.
