Germany and Portugal faced each other in their opening fixture of the ‘Group of death’, a group which also contains European heavyweights Netherlands and Denmark. The match was a must win for both sides if they were to qualify
for the knockout stage.
The Portuguese tactician was spotted in the stands cheering on his side against Die Nationalelf. Although Germany won the match 1-0, Joachim Low took the opportunity to call up his Real Madrid counterpart.
"I spoke with Mourinho after the game," he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The gaffers spoke about the performance of their star players Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil, who according to them had an impressive game. The match itself was a high tempo affair as both sides went for the win.
"He told me Khedira and Ozil are in great form, and that the game was tough for both teams,” he added.
The Germans were lucky to emerge as winners from a game which could have gone either way. Solid defending from DFB eleven’s centre backs managed to absorb waves of Portuguese attack.
Low also accredited Mourinho for his part in the development of two of the most exciting Die Mannschaft players, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira. The former Fenerbahce manager also revealed he keeps in touch with the Portuguese tactician
to enquire about the midfielders’ development.
"I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. I must say he developed Khedira and Ozil dramatically. We often speak about their development," he added.

Mesut Ozil, the heartbeat of the Die Nationalelf midfield, is tipped to play an important part in his side Euro 2012 title turn.
