Rainer Bonhof the Borussia Monchengladbach believes Marco Reus showed what he is capable of in Bundesliga and deserves to feature in Germany’s matches.
Marco Reus recently completed his transfer to the Bundesliga Champions Borussia Dortmund for a fee reported to be around 17.5 million Euros, and signed a five year deal.
Prior to joining the ‘Black Yellows’, Reus was a permanent fixture in the Borussia Monchengladbach’s starting line-up. He scored 37 goals in 99 appearances for the club and was an integral part of the squad that qualified for the
UEFA Champions League playoffs.
The 23-year old was called up to the Germany squad on the back of a successful 2011-2012 Bundesliga campaign. Despite starring in the domestic league the former Borussia Monchengladbach man has failed to make a single appearance
in the European Championship although he has a goal in six caps for Germany.
Reus’s former vice-president Rainer Bonhof expresses his disappointment at seeing him on Germany’s bench without making a single appearance. Die Fohlen supremo believes the youngster has a strong case, as he was heavily involved
in Borussia Monchengladbach’s League campaign.
"Marco deserves a chance. Jogi Low can bring him on with no reservations. Marco has had an outstanding season for Borussia [Monchengladbach]," he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The player himself is finding it hard to sit on the bench without making a solitary appearance, as he has never been in this sort of situation before.
"For me, it is brutally hard to sit on the bench and not play a part. This situation is totally unusual for me," Reus is quoted as saying in an interview.
The Borussia Dortmund striker knows it is not right to complain in the press, but he thinks the time will come when he will get at least get a few minutes on the pitch to prove his worth.
"It is not in my nature to mope around for a long time. I am looking forward and hope that my time will come,” he added.
The sensational form of Mario Gomez has forced Joachim Low to leave the forward line unchanged. Reus will have to wait for his chance as Miroslav Klose; one of Germany’s top scorer is benched in favour of Gomez.
