Joachim Persson beats Howard Shu in semi-finals of Canadian International Challenge – Badminton news
Denmark’s prime male shuttler Joachim Persson remained invincible in the semi-final round of Ottawa Canadian International Challenge and marched into Men’s Singles final round on June 28, 2013.
He faced Howard Shu of USA and their meeting prolonged to 51 minutes in a local badminton arena of Ottawa. Both contenders made every effort to oust the opponent and kept the audience intact till the decisive figures of 19-21, 21-10 and 21-15.
Initially, the American shuttler tipped the scale in his favour by winning the opening game but then Joachim struck hard in ending two games and locked the honour.
Howard Shu looked in prime touch in the beginning of first set as he unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and claimed many valuable points without any interruption. He did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and strengthened his grip over the
game.
At half time, Howard Shu was in commanding position with scoreboard flashing a decent total in his favour. However, few back-to-back mistakes weakened his grip in third quarter of the set. He remained at the lower end in the final stage but then some consecutive
points reinstated his dominance. He won this set with 21-19 total.
The second set of match changed the scenario as Joachim showed a transformed character and tipped the scale in his favour. This time the Danish player did not repeat previous mistakes and confounded his opponent with an improvised game plan.
Joachim laid foundation of his supremacy with a staggering knock in first half of the set. He carried that momentum in latter part of the game and registered a winning margin of 21-10 with great ease.
With this timely win, Joachim gained a great boost and that reflected in his strategy in the third set of match. He started the beating from very first stroke and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
The Danish campaigner played impeccable badminton and won this tussle with an unassailable lead of six points in 21-15 margin.
Now he is scheduled to meet Eric Pang in the title match of 2013 Canadian International Challenge.
