http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631’s agent, Horacio Gaggioli, revealed that his client’s desire to play regularly in twilight of his career has not been satisfied at Benfica and for that he might make the switch to Italian side Juventus.
Spanish International, Capdevila, signed for Benfica this summer as a replacement for the departed Fabio Coentrao. With Years of experience at the highest level under his belt, it was widely believed that he would seamlessly fit into the Lisbon side.
However, far from the dizzying heights Coentrao reached at Estadio da Luz, Capdevila has actually gone backwards and is now not only spending more time on the sidelines than on the pitch.
Fellow new-signing Emerson has taken up the veteran’s role in the Primeira Liga on a regular basis.
Capdevila has nobody other than himself to blame for missing out on a spot in the UEFA Champions League. The defender failed to register his documents with UEFA on time. As a result, he now has to spend time watching his teammates play against the likes
of Manchester United until he gets registered in January.
With his future uncertain in Lisbon, many have speculated that the 33-year-old might seek a transfer away from the club, confirming those reports has been his representative, Horacio Gaggioli.
The agent confirmed that his client’s status at the Portuguese giants and said that he will have to talk to the club officials so that Capdevila can either play or seek greener pastures elsewhere in January.
"Capdevila, The alternative is to play, but I cannot analyze it, because first you have to talk to Benfica. I travel, but I was talking to the president on Capdevila when he can, what should happen next week. I cannot assess interest from other clubs because
he's a Benfica player,” he said.
Gaggioli also added that if Benfica did not let the left-back play regularly, he will look to engineer a transfer to another interested team, of whom Juventus were the most prominent name bidding for his services.
"He went to Benfica to play, if not the play we have to do something, Juventus and other teams may be solutions,” Horacio Gaggioli was quoted as saying.
Facing competition not only on the domestic front, Joan Capdevila is fast losing his berth in the highly regarded Spanish national team due to his inability to string together a run of games with his club.
In order to book his place in next year’s European Championships, for whom La Roja are favourites, the former Villarreal man must either up his game at Benfica or complete a switch to a club like Juventus, where he can feature regularly at the highest level.
