Joan Capdevila and Cesar Peixoto are different cases, says Benfica coach Jorge Jesus
Benfica coach Jorge Jesus believes that the situations with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631 and Cesar Peixoto are completely different, as Capdevila is a part of the squad but Peixoto is not in the team and has only been included due to injuries.
The Eagles secured the services of Spanish defender Joan Capdevila over the summer, however, the left-back has hardly made an impact in his surroundings and is now second choice after Emerson.
The Lisbon outfit also has the option of choosing Cesar Peixoto for the left-back role and that is what Jorge Jesus did in the UEFA Champions League.
Jorge Jesus chose to include the 31-year-old veteran as Capdevila was not in the squad for the prestigious competition and injuries to the likes of Jara and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Martins-c8485 forced his hand.
Speaking to reporters, the trainer said World Cup winner Capdevila is definitely part of his plans for the season and the only reason he was suffering from a lack of game time was because he arrived after Emerson.
“I count on Capdevila. He is a part of the squad but is a player who arrived late in relation to Emerson. Play in a position, or are the first option, or are not invited. The first option has been the Emerson, so do not need to take another side to the bank
in danger of running out the possibility of other options,” he said.
Jesus also revealed that Peixoto is not in the team and was only included due to some last minute injuries to key players such as Jara and Carlos Martins, who are both still recovering on the sidelines.
"He is a player who was not within the squad. Without Jara and Carlos Martins, Benfica was able to sign up with one more player, but Peixoto is not in the team,” the Eagles boss was quoted as saying.
With limited game time at Benfica, Joan Capdevila’s agent has hinted that his client may seek a transfer elsewhere in January, although it is uncertain how Jorge Jesus’s latest comments will affect the situation.
