Joan Guzman thrashes Jesus Pabon to collect knockout win in eighth round – Boxing news
In ESPN2’s special Friday ‘Fight Nights’ edition ‘Dominican Domination’, Joan Guzman, the Dominican number one light welterweight, clearly outclassed and dominated his Puerto Rican opponent Jesus Pabon to collect eighth round knockout win.
The show was sponsored and promoted by Acquinity Sports and the ring was set up at Westin Diplomat Resort situated in Hollywood, Florida, United States. The duo headlined the special Friday night show and put up a great show of strength, resilience, agility,
and sheer raw power. Joan, widely known as ‘Little Tyson’, has been in a total 33 bouts. He has emphatically won 31 of his total bouts and 18 of them by knockout.
Guzman is famous for being a true replica of Mike Tyson. Whenever he enters the ring, his style, footwork, technique, and even rage is the same as that of the legendary Tyson.
But Jesus, despite being inexperienced, gave Joan a tough time subjugating the former IBF lightweight champion from collecting a swift win. Pabon, 31, was entering in his career’s 20th brawl. He emerged victorious in 17 bouts and nailed eleven of his opponents
by knockout.
Jesus has proudly held the interim WBO Latino light welterweight title and successfully defended it as well. The Puerto Rican proud was no match for Joan and each and every analyst was predicting Pabon’s defeat in just the initial rounds.
Pabon took the punishment from the very beginning as Joan started things off quick and from the very first round pounded Jesus effectively to score as much points possible. Joan threw every single punch with a knockout in his mind but hats off to Jesus’
resilience.
Jesus remained on his feet and not only defended himself effectively but threw point-scoring jabs as well after regular intervals. Pabon’s resilience did back him up to stand again and again but Joan’s punches were extremely hard to absorb. Pabon fell thrice
in the first, third, and fourth round.
After much beating and understanding that Joan is getting exhausted, Jesus started pummelling Joan in the seventh round and onwards but it was too late. In the eighth round Joan unleashed his final wave of punches to end the bout for good. After the passage
of one minute and 23 seconds Joan shocked Jesus by a thundering jab that knocked Pabon’s senses out.
Joan now has 32 wins in his account and 19 of them by knockout. Jesus, on the contrary, had 17 wins and collected his second consecutive defeat.
