The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 president claimed that Guardiola did not reveal his exact reasons for parting company with the Camp Nou based-outfit.
War of words between Joan Laporta and his successor in Barcelona’s boardroom, Sandro Rosell, continue for another week. The former blamed the current incumbent as the reason Pep Guardiola left La Blaugrana.
Laporta claimed that the 41-year-old was fed-up with performing tasks that did not come under his domain but were in the jurisdiction of Sandro Rosell’s Board of Directors.
The former president remarked that it was this very reason that was behind Guardiola’s refusal to renew his contract with Barcelona.
Moreover, Laporta opined that it would have done wonders for the Catalan club had Guardiola continued his magnificent title winning run at the Camp Nou.
He stated that he has always had faith in La Masia academy graduate and added that there was more to come from him.
"It would have been great if Guardiola had stayed on as manager of Barça. He didn't walk away due to the reasons he stated, but due to the fact that he was fed up. The extra work he was given wore him out,” he said.
"The team could have gone a long way with Pep at the helm. That's what I've always said. He could have taken the team a long way", Laporta added.
Continuing with the tirade of accusations, Laporta suggested that if a popular poll is taken about Barcelona’s performance in the 2011/12 season and likening it with what they accomplished in the years before, the Cules will point the latest as their best.
"Ask the Barca fans if they think that the past season was the best in the club's history. Ask them if they prefer the past season or the season when the team won La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and all the rest", he said.
When quizzed whether there is a chance of a truce with Rosell, Laporta stated that with a 47 million Euros lawsuit against him, the chances of such a thing are zero. He then continued to call the current president as coward for bringing the club in disrepute
with his court claims.
