Sandro Rosell’s predecessor voiced his ambitions of returning to La Blaugrana’s control room in the next presidential elections of the Catalan club.
Barcelona’s success in the first decade of the current millennium could be attributed to controversial president, Joan Laporta. The 49-year-old was the trophy cabinet overhauled by Frank Rijkaard in the earlier years and then by Pep Guardiola after the Dutch
tacticians ousting.
In a period spanning from June 2003 to June 2010, La Blaugrana enjoyed magnanimous success winning two UEFA Champions League titles, and 4 La Liga winners’ medals among other silverware success that totals to 12 trophies in all.
However, he left the club in acrimonious conditions as once confidant, Sandro Rosell, worked to oust him from Barcelona’s board room.
Since leaving in 2010 in favour of the former Nike executive, Rosell has been a stern critic of the new policies of the Catalan club, and has been in constant war of words with the club’s executives.
In a recent interview, Laporta continued his criticism of the club’s board and revealed that he is thinking about running for re-election in the coming elections. While talking to EFE, he admitted that the thought has entered his mind and stated that he
is currently analysing the situation at the club.
Responding to questions regarding the current setup, Laporta commented that he is not happy with what Rosell’s cronies are doing with the club and opined that they are ruining the excellent foundations they put in place at the Camp Nou.
Continuing on the topic, the Catalan politician remarked that he is always boastful of the work he put in at the club and finds no reason not to return to the place he holds dearest.
"I'm ready to go back to being president of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078," he told EFE. "It's a thought that occurred to me at the end of the season, after analysing how everything was going and I had a clear perception that the current board is obsessed with destroying
what we did.”
"And I'm very proud of the model Barca built. So when I'm asked if I will return, I answer: 'Yes, I'm thinking about it.’”
