Joanna Maranhao captures Women’s 400m IM gold – Jose Finkel Trophy
Joanna Maranhao of CRF/RJ captured gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, August 21.
Maranhao served notice of her talent in the distant IM discipline, as she showed no mercy to her competitors and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal. She faced no trouble from her opponents throughout the swim and pocketed gold
medal of the event.
With her alluring pace, she remained nearly 15 metres ahead of her following rival and posted a time of 4 minutes and 38.73 seconds for the title.
The champion was chased by Larissa Freitas Cieslak of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed nearly 13 seconds slower and tapped the wall for silver medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 51.15 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Julia Volkmann of GNU, who was only 1.01 seconds apart and clinched bronze medal of the event by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 52.16 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Jessica Veronez of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who was only 0.20 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 4 minutes and 52.36 seconds.
Subsequently, Veronez was followed by her teammate, Amanda Caroline Delgado, who remained 2.12 seconds apart and completed her race in fifth best place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 54.48 seconds.
Delgado was followed by Catarina Cucatti Ganzeli of UNISANTA, who remained prominent for sixth position of the event by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 56.39 seconds.
Ganzeli was traced by her teammate, Jhessica Karoline Santos, who remained nearly three body lengths behind and ended seventh in the event by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 59.02 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Luciana Aparecida Ribeiro of THERMAS DO VALE, who stayed considerably slower from her and posted an effort of 5 minutes and 04.85 seconds.
Maranhao was pleased with her performance in the 400m IM and collected medal for her gruelling form at the victory ceremony of the event.
