Joanne Crimp wins Kennelhand of the Year award
Joanne Crimp has been named as the winner of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) award for the Kennelhand of the Year, 2011. Crimp has been providing his services to Lisa Stephenson, the Sheffield trainer.
It was certainly a tough competition between Crimp and other contestants for the big honour. However, following long deliberations, the selectors acknowledged, Crimp, as the right option to hand over the award.
The selection panel comprised of many big names such as, broadcasters Tanya Stevenson and Jonathan Hobbs, GTA Chair Norah McEllistrim, RGT Chief Executive Peter Laurie and GBGB Welfare and Integrity Services Manager, Duncan Gibson.
BAGS (Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service) was the guarantor party to sponsor the award this year.
GBGB Welfare and Integrity Services Manager, Duncan Gibson, who was a part of the selection panel, expressed gratitude to all those, who helped the board decide the winner.
On the selection procedure, Gibson said, “We’re grateful as ever to Tanya, Hobbsy, Peter and Norah for giving up their time to help with a very difficult decision. We’d also like to thank all those who took the time to write and submit a nomination."
He added, "A kennelhand’s workload is one of the toughest in the business and there’s little doubt that there are many hundreds of others not nominated who also deserve the recognition. The Panel felt that Joanne’s peers had conveyed she demonstrates
a level of exceptional dedication in her daily duties.”
As her prize, Crimp will be given a lavish dinner, a cash prize of 500 pounds, and a room at the 4-Star Park Plaza Riverbank hotel.
Not only the winner, the three runner-ups, Kelly Bakewell (Gary Bakewell, Hall Green), Paul Anderson (Chris Allsopp, Monmore) and Gemma Byford (Norah McEllistrim, Wimbledon) are set to be bestowed with the prize. They will receive £150 and a bottle
of champagne, each.
The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on January 22, 2012. The tickets of the event have already been sold out, earlier this month. Apart from the prize distributing ceremony, the event includes a drinks reception and a warm meal.
Meanwhile, a silhouette artist will raise funds for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT), a national charity for betterment of the retired greyhounds.
