Joao B De Lucca claims Men’s 200m freestyle gold: Day one – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Joao B De Lucca of CRF/RJ claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, April 24.
Lucca served notice of his talent by snatching gold medal of the 200m event in a wonderful manner. With his invincible efforts, he upset his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
He faced tough competition from his strongest challenger, Nicolas Cesar Oliveira in the first half of the race, but with his relentless efforts, he prevailed in the final half and proved his eligibility for the title.
He posted an effort of 1 minute and 48.26 seconds to capture the title of the discipline. His gold winning effort remained nearly 0.53 seconds slower from his following swimmer, Oliveira of FIAT/MINAS, who seized silver medal of the discipline by posting
a time of 1 minute and 48.79 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 0.04 seconds slower from his subsequent competitor and his teammate, Charles Gipson Houchin, who completed his swim in third best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 48.83 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Rodrigo Rocha Castro, who stayed almost one second slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 49.75 seconds.
Castro was trailed by Juan Pereyra of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed 0.36 seconds behind and submitted a time of 1 minute and 50.11 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Pereyra remained 0.16 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer, Fernando Ernesto Pires Do, who appeared on the finishing end by reporting a time of 1 minute and 50.27 seconds.
Do remained marginally ahead of Leonardo Alves Santos Fim, who secured seventh position of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 50.46 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ, who finished his swim in eighth best place by producing an effort of 1 minute and 50.79 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
