Joao Pedro Sorgi disposes of Marco Aurei Nunez in the Boy's Singles opening round – French Open 2011
10th seed Joao Pedro Sorgi of Brazil had an excellent start to the French Open Junior's campaign, as he downed Marco Aurei Nunez of Mexico in the opening round. The Brazilian took merely one hour to take down his opponent
in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, to advance of the second round of Roland Garros.
It was a pretty one-sided contest, as Sorgi faced no real challenge from his competitor, who appeared in all sorts of confusion right from the beginning. Nunez hung in the opening set for some time but posed no real challenge in
the following set to suffer a straight sets defeat in the very first matchup he played in the mega event.
The Mexican failed to take the pressure of the match on the greatest of stages and couldn’t display his tennis skills assertively to get the better of his opponent. His bleak serve was not good enough to contain Sorgi, who stung
four break points en route to victory, where Nunez registered merely one serve break in the entire matchup.
Sorgi delivered 63 percent of his first serve on target and amazingly secured 28 out of 30 points on it to edge past his opponent to the second round of the tournament. Sorgi dominated the contest throughout and raced through the
games without much resistance from his opponent.
The bleak Mexican serve reached merely 54 percent precision in the contest, along with four costly double faults, to remain on the back foot throughout the game. Nunez reeled off 21 out of 29 first serve points in the matchup,
yet ending on the losing side.
The opener took off with both boys trying to get the early advantage over their opponent by playing some aggressive tennis. Nunez held serve in the opening two games before he suffered his first serve break of the match but the
determined Mexican quickly backfired at his opponent to strike a break point in the very next game, bringing the score on even terms. Sorgi then stung a crucial serve break in the ninth game to serve out of the first set at 6-4, getting 1-0 lead in the contest.
Sorgi kept his winning momentum in the next as well and gave absolutely no room to Nunez to get his impact in the game. The Brazilian struck two consecutive serve breaks to wrap up victory at 6-1, moving on to the second round
of the French Open, where he will face the local boy, Enzo Couacaud, for a place in the third round.
