Joao Souza dominates Marcel Felder to enter quarterfinals - Uruguay Open 2011
Uruguayan Marcel Felder hoped to win the second round match and enter the quarterfinals on home soil but his tournament came to a halt when the Brazilian Joao Souza won the match in straight set, 6-3, 6-0. For Felder, this match
proved to be his last stop in the ATP division match, as he could not secure any sort of stance at the 2011 Uruguay Open.
With the first set in progress, both players started their attack with an equal amount of energy. Souza, who played the qualifying rounds of the 2011 Australian Open and the first round of the 2011 US Open, scored two aces in the
opening set and conceded a double fault once. Felder, who still has to make his Grand Slam debut, scored with an ace and conceded a double fault once. Souza had an 85% first serve winning rate but Felder was closing in by securing 82% winning ratio.
The games deficit between the two players increased in their first and second serves. Souza, who ranks at the world number 101st place in the world, won 68% points from his first serve and was successful in winning 50%
points from his second serve. World number 251st, Felder, could win 56% points from his first serve but he drastically fell with his second serve as he could only win 17% points.
Both players could not save their breakpoints with efficiency. The Brazilian saved two breakpoints from the three he got while the Uruguayan was able to save only three breakpoints from the six he faced. The Uruguayan could only
win three games as the Brazilian won the first set 6-3. Felder was looking to get a win in the second set to stay in the match but Souza was dominant throughout the second set. Souza delivered an ace in the set and conceded a double fault once. Felder went
on without scoring any ace and conceded a double fault once. Souza had a 61% first serve winning rate while Felder had a 68% winning rate.
The 23-year old Brazilian was ahead in terms of his serves as he won 73% points from his first serve and 71% points from his second serve. Felder could not keep with up with the pace and momentum which Souza was playing with as
he could win 33% points from his first serve and only 29% from his second. The Brazilian was successful in saving the only breakpoint that he faced while Felder was not that lucky.
The Uruguayan was only able to save four breakpoints out of the seven that he faced, a main cause that kept him on the back foot in the set. Felder could not use the home crowd and home ground advantage, as he was unable to win
any game in the second set. Souza played all of his service games with efficiency as he won the second set 6-0 and became the quarterfinalist at the 2011 Uruguay Open.
