Joaquin Rodriguez wins stage 8 of Vuelta a Espana 2011 – Cycling Update
The 32-year-old Spanish rider Rodriguez Oliver won stage 8 at Vuelta with Michele Scarponi at second, Bauke Molleme at third, Jurgen Van Den Broeck at fourth and Jakob Fuglsang secured the fifth position at stage 8 of the Vuelta a Espana 2011.
The stage 8 winner Rodriguez commented on winning as he said, “It was useful to know the course, I came to reconnoitre it in July with Dani Moreno who lives nearby and it has helped me to win. I knew where to impose my rhythm, where to sit on the bike on
the false flats and where to accelerate again.”
Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver is leading stage 8 general classifications as the Spaniard has a total time of 32:18:16 with his Katusha team-mate Daniel Moreno Fernandez 32 seconds behind at second and the Leopard Trek rider Jakob Fuglsang at third position.
The 26-year-old Jakob commented on securing the third spot after the stage 8 general classification at the grand tour as he mentioned that he is surprised to see himself at the top third position in the GC and is hopeful to continue the performance throughout
the tour. He said, “The first week has been pretty perfect. It really has been going well all the way until now. We still have to take one day at a time and see how long we can keep going like this.”
Adrian Palomares Villaplana won the most combative rider award for the stage as Team Leopard Trek was at first position with a total time of 14:28:07 with Geox-TMC 11 seconds behind at second and Team Radio Shack at third position.
The top three players after the stage 8 points classifications are Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver at first with 73 points, Peter Sagan of Liquigas-Cannondale at second with 50 points and Pablo Lastras Garcia of Movistar Team at third position with 48 points.
Team Radio Shack is leading the team’s classification with Rabobank Cycling Team at second, Leopard Trek at third, Geox-TMC at fourth and Katusha Team at fifth position.
