Joaquin Sanchez’s move to cash-rich Malaga – La Liga special
Malaga CF had a quiet summer transfer window in 2010 but the cash-rich club had suffered preceding clubs. The club was reeling at the bottom of the points table by December 2010, and it was then that the new investor, Nasser Al Thani, stepped in. Coach Jesualdo
Ferreira was sacked and former Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini was brought it. The club’s activity in the ensuing winter transfer window enabled it to retain La Liga status, finishing at eleventh spot, only 3 points behind eighth placed Espanyol.
The club continued their transfer activity from January and brought in eight new players. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nacho-Monreal-c27216
was also added to the club’s ranks. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Buonanotte-c11093 has returned to the club, adding competition in the attacking ranks of the club.
With all this transfer activity at the Andalusian club, the outfit could now attract established stars to the club. Joaquin Sanchez joined the club from Valencia. The experienced winger has been given the number 7 jersey for the 2011/12 La Liga campaign.
The 51-time capped Spanish international comes at a nominal fee of 4 million Euros.
The capture of Joaquin should be considered a coup for Malaga CF, whose highest league position is 11th in their entire history. The 29-year old joins Malaga after serving Valencia for five years. Joaquin commanded a transfer fee of 25 million
Euros upon his switch from Real Betis, which remains Valencia’s highest transfer to date.
Joaquin served Los Che with diligence and was a fan favourite early on. In his five-year stay at Valencia, he played a total of 158 official games and scored 18 goals. His efforts in his first season took Valencia to Champions League qualification, Europe's
premier club competition.
After the sale of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 to Manchester City in summer of 2010, Joaquin’s departure would surely count as a loss. It also marks the end of an era, and Valencia now embark on their rebuilding process.
Joaquin’s arrival will mark an influx to the Spanish side, alleviating them to the level the club hope to achieve. Malaga’s ambitions are also clear; they are here to make it big. Breaking the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona is certainly out of question
but making it into the top four can be a realistic target for seasons to come.
In Joaquin, the club have acquired a seasoned professional who can add experience to last season’s much maligned squad. The versatility offered by the experienced winger will be of extreme importance as the club make a push to Europe.
Alongside the likes of Toulalan and Van Nistelrooy, the club can boast experience at the top level and pedigree of the highest quality. Joaquin, though not the fearsome winger he was back in his days, would bring invaluable experience to the wings, and Malaga
can only build on that.
