Question:

Job Hazard Insurance Question?

I am starting a job as a private contractor in an unsafe building. (It is a historic structure that collapsed during an earthquake.) In order to start working there I was told I need to purchase hazard insurance for myself. Anyone know what this is? I don;t understand why I can't just cover myself with my private health insurance.

  1. Hazard Insurance is insurance that covers both you and your health but also any 'improvements' you make if the building collapses or become totally uninhabitable.  Call the agent who sells you house insurance or apartment insurance and ask to see what policies they have, or if they can give you a reference to a good 'hazard insurance' agent.

  2. It's probably disability or workers compensation insurance. They require is because they don't want liability in the event you get injured.

health insurance may cover medical costs, but it will not pay you a stream of income should you have unemployment due to disability.

It's the Aflac stupid duck commercial message.
