So I have a job interview tomorrow and I just found out that the person interviewing me is related to my god-parents. Do you think I should mention this to her, or to you think that she will think I am sucking up to her. Would it help me to mention it? I am VERY close to my god-parents btw.

  1. Put your best foot foward.

  2. Ok...while this may be in your favor, do not mention it to the person interviewing you during the interview.  Here is why:  Interviewers have to be very careful about personal conversations during an interview because there are so many anti-discrimination laws.

You want the job because of you who are, not because of who you are associated with, right?

There is always weird small talk while they are walking you out, maybe if you want to and it feels right, mention it on the way out.  Rapport is always a good thing to build, and knowing people has done wonders for my career.

Just play it safe!!  Good luck!

  3. YES

    mention it!

Mention it at the beginning of the interview after the introductions and handshake. Simply say "Are you related to [godparents]? They're my godparents!" Don't let this conversation go on too long though.

But it really depends on the interviewer. Does she look friendly? Or extremely professional?

It won't be sucking up if you show it's just a sincere question.
