Job Kienhuis outperforms in Men’s 1500m freestyle: Day One – 42nd International Swimming Festival
Job Kienhuis of Netherlands proved his dominance by outperforming his competitors in Men’s 1500m freestyle on the initial day of the 42nd International Swimming Festival on Friday, October 14, in Aachen, Germany.
While the world is heading towards the European legs of 2011 Swimming World Cup, the 21-year-old Kienhuis denied frenzy efforts of his rivals in Aachen. He claimed the gold medal of the 1500m freestyle by completing his swim in an astounding time of 14 minutes and 39.97 seconds.
Kienhuis, who ranks 17th in the 1500m freestyle overall rankings, has clocked second best time in the world. With his impeccable effort, he remained almost five seconds away from the 1500m freestyle world-record holder, Sun Yang, who posted a time of 14 minutes and 34.14 seconds at the 2011 World Championships.
The champion remained prominently strong from his competitors, as he went rampant and dictated terms to them from the start of race. With his commendable swim throughout the thirty-lap race, Kienhuis earned a lead of almost 33 seconds over his closest competitor and team-member, Arjen Van der Meulen, who followed him on the podium for silver medal with a timing of 15 minutes and 12.06 seconds.
Meulen tried to prove his mettle for the top spot of the swim, but the unmatchable efforts of Kienhuis crushed his hopes of earning a gold finish. His immaculate stroke and notable strength enabled him to outshine in the 1500m discipline and the gold medallist almost half pool-length ahead of his subsequent rival.
At one fell swoop, German swimmer, Soren Meibner secured his third fastest spot of the swim. The 21-year-old Meibner stayed 7.25 seconds slower from his following challenger, clocking a time of 15 minutes and 19.31 seconds for bronze medal.
The arena expressed contentment over wonderful efforts of all podium finishers, who skipped their participation in the Swimming World Cup and fulfilled their commitment by competing in the International Swimming Festival. Furthermore, the top finishers were invited on the medal rostrum after the completion of session.
