Job Seekers Allowance?

Question

I've just left school at 16 with my GCSE's and I am currently seeking for an Apprenticeship. Am I entitled for job seekers allowance from the job centre and to also help me with my search?

To be honest I think you have to work 1st. But don't go on it you don't ned to your parents can help you.

contact your local council and discuss your situation with them, they'll be able to advise you as to your eligibility.

It is worth asking at the Job Centre but I think that now 16-18 year olds are not normally able to claim JSA, there are exceptions such as if you are estranged from your parents or have a child, you will probably be referred to Connexions who will have information about schemes where you are paid a training allowance.

Your parents can only in theory go on claiming child benefit etc. for you if you are in full-time education but if you go to Connexions this counts as the equivalent and they can still claim.

I may be wrong, but I have a son just a few years older than you and this has been our experience.

If your parents are still receive Child Benefit and Tax Credits for you you will not get JSA

If you're unemployed and 16 or 17 years old you may be able to get income-based JSA for a short amount of time. For example, this could be if you:

are forced to live away from your parents

will find it very hard to live without Jobseeker’s Allowance

are part of a couple responsible for a child

If your parents are still receive Child Benefit and Tax Credits for you you will not get JSA

Yes you should, and yeah they can help you search for an apprenticeship or help you find maybe a job with training. You'll have to go in every 2 weeks to show them what searching you have done etc.
