Question:

Job/Work induction day?

I had an interview at Dorothy Perkins two weeks ago and was told yesterday that i have to come in for an induction day next week.

Are they preparing me and just 'showing me the ropes'? or is it going to be something different? It's in the mid-afternoon so i don't think it's one of those days where you do team exercises and stuff like that.

This is my first job.

What should i take with me? National Insurance Number/Bank Statement/Passport?

What should i wear? Black trousers and a casual shirt or something else?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Usually on an induction day they will just show you around the shop and get you to meet other members of staff. Probably not team exercises - just an afternoon to give you a feel for the job. It is probably best to take your passport, NI number and bank statement. As they will probably sit down with you at the end of the day and get you to decide whether you want the job - if you do want the job then you will need to give them those details.  At least then you look prepared and organised, just wear smart black trousers and a light (prefferably white) shirt.

Good luck, I hope it goes well.

  2. On Induction Day's you should bring with you a copy of your CV, Exam Certificates, Note Book, Pen, National Insurance Number, Birth Certificate and a Bank Statement.

Wear what you would wear for work.

  3. Induction days are really what they mean, an introduction into the company. You'll be taken through company policies, contract signing, meeting store managers and other members of staff. You'll be given a chance to wlak around and be shown were stuff is, you'll probabily be dedicated another member of staff for a few weeks to show you the ropes and help you out with any problems. They will normally tell you if you need to bring anything with you, if they haven't give them a ring and ask, it shows inicitive rather then turning up empty handed and looking a bit stupid. Black trousers and a casual but smart top will be fine, and sensible footwear, you'll be on your feet so high heels are a no no.
