Job application followup?

In these days where alot of jobs are available to apply online, is it acceptable to call the local establishment following up on your job application? Of course the job was advertised for a specific location, not just an "inquiry application."

  1. I certainly would.  The company I work for has an online application process but I know for a fact that people never get called and people get hired at local in-house application sessions.

  2. ABSOLUTELY YES!

You need to separate yourself from the hundreds and thousands of other applications they are receiving.

And when you call them, sound like you have a point and a purpose. Example, instead of "Hi, I'm just calling to followup on the application I sent you.", Say "Hi! I'm extremely interested in the position and showing you how I can help you with (duties of the position)... When would be a good time for us to meet? Would Thursday at 2:00 or Friday at 8:00 be okay with you?" You just want to set an appointment, if they agree to meet you, you have succeeded, say Thank you I'll see you then, and hang-up. Don't confirm on the day of, just show up at the agreed time.

Another tip... try the "back-door", you already know the company may be hiring because they posted an ad. Now see if you can make some calls and ask your friends and friends of friends if they know anyone who works there or used-to work there and get them to submit your application. A referred lead is 100 times better than a cold-lead and will put you at the top of the pile.

  3. good idea

    that shows enthuasiam...
