  1. The basic format for an online resume is the same as the modern printed format 1-2 pages is ideal, 3 pages tops (if you're a contractor or consultant). You can copy this over and fill in the blanks. A copy of part of my resume follows, so that you can see what I mean in each area.

    full name

    contact information: address, phone, email

    Profile:

    3-4 points summarizing you

    Notable Achievements:

2-3 items that you have done that helped make a difference somewhere. Do not list more than 4, because it sounds boastful. I listed (1) a job where I received an internal award from a company, (2) worked as part of a large team (to show that I'm a team player) and (3) working alone (to show that I'm capable of working without close supervision.

    Relevant Experience:

date, title, company, description of work

    - repeat until done the list of experience *relevant* to the work you're applying for

    Expertise:

    - list the various systems or machines (or whatever) you've used related to the work

    Other Experience:

    - just a list of a few other things you've done

    Personal:

    - this goes at the end when you get into your 30's because, by that time, it's assumed that your experience is of greater interest than your education

    * * *

For example, here is some of mine:

    Sonneteer Q. Alias.

    address, etc.

    Profile

    - experienced in planning and producing high level ISO 9001 documentation for a research and development company

    - experienced in planning and producing ISO 9002 procedures for a high volume manufacturing firm

    Notable Achievements

    - as one of the members of a small team, received an internal award from Nortel for our redesign of core product documentation.

    - as a member of a team of 14, performed technical writing and editing, both on-line and in hard copy, of a large telecommunications technician’s reference manual for a major client in Asia.

Documentation was a key client requirement and we achieved complete product acceptance.

    - managed the programs at a living history site, including:  setting guidelines and standards for site and historic interpretation; assessing audience, developing approach, determining media and identifying resources; writing training manuals and training new staff and volunteers; developing a security and safety component of training course; developing oral and written presentations and giving interviews.

    Relevant Experience:

    2006-08

    Contract Writer / Editor,

Wrote and edited a suite of documents for new software that was designed to disseminate information among team members in an efficient and timely manner.

    2000

    Templater and Editor,

    Company Name

This involved taking several documents and making them appear to be a single, unified effort. My partner and I achieved this, not only by the templating, but also by ensuring that the terminology and definitions were consistent throughout the entire document.

    1999

    Contract Tester, Writer, and Editor

    Company Name

As part of a team, this included: testing the user interface of an online billing system; checking results against programming notes; reporting bugs; documenting the final product.

    Techniques

    Writing - One-Stop Documentation

    QA - ISO 9001, 9002 conformance

    Tools and Publishing Systems

Macintosh and IBM (both mainframe and PC with Windows) using: FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, CMS, Script, GML, PLS, XML

    Other Experience

Other positions have included:  ISO 9001 internal auditor, electronics technician (both precision assembler and preventive maintenance technician), high school teacher, and historical site interpreter

    Personal

    B.A. 1978

Other courses include:  XML, TickIT Auditor's Course, CMS for Programmers, Technical Report Writing, Problem Solving and Decision Making (Kepner-Tregoe), Stress Management

A CV (curriculum vitae) is nothing at all like a resume. It lists *everything* you've done. Mine is 8 or 9 pages, and I'm sure I've forgotten something.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Want a job?-Grab your resume and get in line

Looking online for work is not going to get you a job

You have to do the leg work,no one is going to plop a job in your lap

  3. I do not know of any job applications templates that are free.  If you would like to email me, I would be more than happy to send you one in an attachment.

    Best wishes.
