Question:

Job application help please?

I'm going today to get my first application for a hostess job at a local restaurant. It's a really casual place. My friend works there, and she said they're pretty desperate and she sees no reason why I wouldn't be hired. But I'm really new to this and nervous, and want to do it right. How should I? Walk in and be like 'Can I please speak to Will?' He's the owner. And then when I do, what do I say? Introduce myself and ask for an application? And then what do I say when I turn it in? Please help, I just don't want to s***w this up, cause it'd be a really great first job.

  1. That sounds pretty good to me. Just introduce yourself & say that you were referred to this place by your friend who works there. Ask for an application & go from there.

Relax. The more nervous you get, the harder it will be. You sound like a nice responsible girl, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  2. 1. Know the dress for the job and wear something similar or a bit better.

    2. Be ready for the job interview and be ready to start work then.

    3. Have a 1 page resume. Make sure it's tailored for the job.

    4. Have the data that a job application asks for.

    5. Be ready to answer "Why do you want to work here? and "Why should we hire you?"

6 Know the salary so you can answer "What would be a fair wage?"

    7. If you have a food handler's card, bring it. If not, know where and how to get one.

A lady that runs a boutique complained that she gets numerous young ladies come in looking for a job. She said they aren't dressed for work, chew gum, don't have a resume and aren't able to sit down and fill out a job application (they lack the required information.)

Believe that they will have you fill out forms and do an interview. Be ready.Having a resume makes bosses happy. It gets you the job interview. It gives them a starting point to get information.

"Why do you want to work here?" is an icebreaker question. The boss wants to see how you respond and what information you'll give. Thing is, this gives you control of the interview. You can highlight your skills.

Make a crib sheet, or better. get a copy of the job application and fill it out. Then, when they ask you to fill out the form you'll be able to put down all the required information and do it clean. Never fold, cross out or white out an application.

Preparation equals confidence, that's what gets you hired.

  3. If it's a casual place, casually go in and ask for an application. When you turn it in, just say, "I'm returning my application". Don't be so nervous! Relax, and act casual!
