Job application help?

I'm applying for a position with Best Buy but got stuck at a certain point on the application. The part that stumped me was this:

"Please comment on how your prior education and experiences qualify you for the type of employment you are seeking. Detail any past responsibilities and achievements.

Note any special coursework, honors, activities, special projects, military training or any other data that will assist us in considering your application for employment."

What types of things would I put for this?

  1. You first have to determine what skills or responsibilities the job you are seeking needs/requires.  So, you are basically working in reverse.  If you are applying in a retail position, than you are going to be working with customers.  So, what has helped you to be able to deal with customers?  If education plays a role, than you may have learned critical thinking skills to solve customers problems or how to find an answer for them.  Perhaps it is how to study material, in which case that would help out a great deal at best buy since you have to know a significant amount about all electronics.  If past experience is there, consider if you were in a previous job where discovering a customers need for a particular service played well. My advice is to pick out what would make a good employee at best buy, and then find ways to connect your past to them.

  2. That paragraph simply allows the person hiring you to find out something of your skills and how far advanced your education can take you.  You put in what your education has taught you.
