Question:

Job application question?

I applied recently for a high profile job within a government agency and I was in touch with an executive who connected me with the HR person responsible for the search (I met the executive in a conference).

I tried to follow up on the position by phoning the HR person (she wasnot in her office so I left a message). She never called me back- it is been over a week now since I called her and I actually called again today and again left a message. …

What does her non-responding mean and what should I do.

The job is still being advertised on the organization’s website- the Ad does not specify any closing date for applying.

  1. You should try contacting the HR contact in a week.  If still no response, try finding the HR number thats not a direct line or that is a direct line to an administrative assistant.  It usually takes 2-3 weeks for a response for any other job.  Since it is with the government, it most likely may take a lot longer than the average time frame mentioned above.  And depending on the actual job itself, sometimes can take months, even a year.  Good Luck.

  2. Someone should respond.  I would give it time.  It took over 2 weeks for my job to contact me.  I actually DID get the job, too!  I was in the same position as you...  so I know how you feel!
