Job at tiger beat???

my dream is 2 become a reporter or editor at tiger beat (or any other teen mag but tb is my fav!!!) how can i get this job when im older? how old 2 i have 2 b 2 work there? what collage do u think would b the best 2 go 2? what corses should i take in middle and high school?

Well my first tip is to type everything out. That is really annoying when somebody types the number two when meaning this 'to'.

First: Try to land a spot on your school newspaper. This will definitely give you the experience.

Second: Try to even become a freelance writer for Tiger Beat. while in highschool make sure you learn eveything about english because you will need it!

Third: When you go to college major in communications. If you want to you can concentrate in Journalism but communications alone will allow you to get exposure in every part of communications from photography to journalism.

I would get into the habit of typing things out as opposed to using "text speak".  

Now in terms of writing for Tiger Beat etc. I would get savvy as to who owns the magazine (Tiger Beat and BOP is owned by Laufer Media -- which, strangely, does not have its own website up yet). Tiger Beat does practically all of it's writing "in house".

Definitely write for your school paper - or start a school paper if your school does not have one. You will need to take english writing courses in school but what you really need is to start your body of work ("tear sheet"). Look for teen sections in your local newspapers or for internship opportunities when you get out of high school.

You do not have to take communications in college to become a writer.  I didn't and I've been writing freelance for over 20 years. I have a university degree yes, but that is not necessary to be a writer.  A couple of writing courses can help though.

Whatever you do, don't give up a good writing opportunity.
