  1. There are at least a couple of recruiting firms that specialize in engineering placement in Australia.  I do not know if any of them are any good.

    Job shops as they are sometimes called, or technical placement firms are often a good way to get that first bit of experience you need to get your foot in the door. It's how I got started in the field.  

    Just don't go through any of the ones where they expect *you* to pay a fee to place them.  In the US, at least, it will be the firms paying a fee for the recruiters to find qualified people.  At least the decent ones do.

    Hudson and Calibrate Recruitment both list job opening for instrumentation engineers.

    I would also suggest checking with your school to see if they have any internship programs or suggestions.

    A good internship can often lead to a permanent job offer, or at least good references for one.
