  1. Sethers has given a good answer. Beware, lots of teaching assistants are doing things like covering for absent staff, i.e. stuff that used to be done by teachers.

Be aware that some schools will see you as a way of getting a job done on the cheap.

  2. sounds like a rough school look for a job elsewhere!

  3. First of all they are probably desperate for teaching assistants so don't worry too much.

    1. Let them be angry. You aren't their mother. If they are approachable you can talk to them calmly, but the best is to let their emotions deescalate. Always speak to angry people quietly. It will help settle things down.

    2. Try to duck/deflect the punch. Use NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) and get away from the situation. Do not try to restrain the student unless you have training to do so and the school policy specifically says restraining a student is okay. Always try to allow outbursts to run their course when possible.

    3. Students are often going to have a bad attitude towards you. Don't reflect it and try to stay positive. If they break some kind of rule you can enforce it, but as an aide you are going to be treated more like another student than a teacher so mostly just try to have a good attitude.

    4. If they are in an all out fight just let security handle it. If you are the only option NCI. No fight, pretty much let it play itself out. You aren't their parent or their therapist. You can always be available to listen if it is that kind of dram-filled conflict that teens often get into.

    5. It depends on if it is academic or behavioral. Chances are if they are having those problems they have a IEP (Individual Education Plan) that gives specific strategies for dealing with the problem. TALK TO THEIR TEACHER. Stay positive.

  4. I guess my question would be WHAT GRADE?

the answers will differ from Elementary to Middle School to High School.

I'm going to answer 2 and 5 right now

    2. If a student hit me, *male or female*, they would be walked BRISKLY to the office *if possible, I would give them a wedgie* and they would know who the boss is.

    5. Call the parents. I guarantee if the parents are involved they will wake up.

  5. I can't see what you want to ask.
