ok, so i am going back to work after 4 yrs off, dealing with some personal issues in my life. i was in youth work, but i am not ready to go back to that yet, want something that isnt too emotionally draining and can leave work at work.

so i have been looking at retail, something different.... a new challenge. but i have never worked in this field.

at the interview, i am sure that i will get the questions, what drew you to apply for this position... and why do you want to work in retail.

and.... im not sure what i will say.... any one got any ideas?

like i really want to work in retail... something different... but will that answer be enough to get me a job?

its retail in womens clothing too.....

any ideas will be muchly appreciated, thanks

  1. Tell them that you enjoy working with people, and the challenge of working in a busy environment has always appealed to you,and remember you are applying for a retail position and its about sales so most of the interview will be about how well you can sell yourself,I mean if you cant sell yourself to me how are you going to sell my product to total strangers, don't let me put you off, an interview is just a conversation, and in retail it all depends on how well you can communicate, get someone to do a mock interview with you if you know anyone in retail that would be ideal,I hope you get it I worked in retail for about 10 years and its a great job and you make great friends, still to this day people I sold clothes to chat to me when I'm out it's great to build up a stable of clients.

Best of Luck and enjoy your new career

  2. That will be just fine as an answer, tell them that retail is something you enjoy and would like to do professionally and i'm sure that will be a suitable answer. It's how you compose yourself, meet and interact with the employer that will get you the job. (ANd of course experience). with retail you need some good customer interaction experience. I used to work at a food store and you need to be good with people (which i'm not cus i don't care about peoples complaints).

  3. When I was a manager in a retail store what I was really concerned about was the persons presentation and how I felt they would deal with people. In general (unless you are applying for a management position) it is more about personality then experience.

I supplied a link to common job interview questions that may be helpful.

    Good Luck.
