well, i am in a horrible job and about twice a month i will call out becuase i just cannot bear the thought of going in. I am a hardworker it's the people i have to work with and yes i have been looking for another job! The people i work with mistreat me, don't half do their job, etc. Today i was 5 mins late becuase of a detour and when i got there they were so rude to me. They know i am NEVER late but they gave away my set that i always work at and when i got there they were not only so rude and hateful, but they snidely said "Why didn't you just call in" 5 MINS PEOPLE!!! This is an ongoing thing and i have tried talking to the superior but she just takes their side or half way punishes them. So I told them i was sick and went home. I dread going in tomorrow if i even have a job. I just don't know what to do. Two Questions? What do i do tomorrow? and how do i go about finding a new job quickly!! Isn't there like a employment agency and how does that work? PS I work in a nursing home.

  1. Nursing home help is in very high demand; first register at a minimum of three employment agencies, then get the yellow pages and call all the nursing homes in your area; also check classifieds and hospitals. With nursing home experience you might be able to get a job at a hospital or a doctor's office. Bad stuff like this happens for a reason and this is a sign for you to get out of there and stop putting up with abuse and harassment, no job is worth that.

  2. well, if you are unhappy, then certainly look for another job. but, NEVER quit! dont give up until you have found another job! stay strong and ignore them. show them that you dont care what they say. just go in, do your job, and get out. its like, a dog barking and howling at the moon. the moon is so far away that that the moon cant hear the dog, the dog cant shut the moon off, it just sits there and it shines. and eventually, the dog will see that the moon is still there and he too will have to admire the moon. show your dominance against them and dont give up. good luck

  3. That's a pretty brutal situation, and it sounds like you have the right idea by looking for a way out ASAP.

In the meantime, do what you can to keep your pride.  If you are planning to leave anyways, you have to do what you can to stay above the pettiness, and don't be afraid to stand up for yourself (in a reasonable way) and tell the people making your life miserable to stick it.  This won't change how they act, but it will let you feel like you aren't letting people walk all over you and take something from you (your job) that you work hard at and earned--at least not without a fight.   And make sure you also do your job to the best of your ability until you leave so that you don't give them anything to criticize you on for that.

I've been through this kind of thing twice--The first time I walked away and was left feeling bitter and resentful (not to mention unemployed), and the second time I took the company to the Ministry of Labour and made life absolutely miserable for them.  I made a few dollars (not much) and had to do a LOT of paperwork, but what made it most worthwhile was that I felt like if someone was going to treat me poorly, then I would certainly not stand for it!

If it gets really bad, a few weeks with no job may be better than misery if you can manage financially.  Or, if you are concerned that you may not be able to find something else, you could always look into government assistance programs that will allow you to go back to school and upgrade your qualifications--I know that RNs are highly in demand right now as are many professions in the health care field that you would probably be wonderful at!
