i need a higher paying job, i current work at a grocery store, but i have a degree in computer systems technology

I'm currently looking in local phone books for every computer business in my area.

i have found like 50-150 different businesses

not all are going to post their jobs online, and not all will centralize their job posts to one site.

my question is this whats the fastest most effective way to work for one of those 50-150 companies/business? do i use the phone? do i go in person? do i send resumes in the mail? do i send resumes by email? do i apply for job posts online? or do i do them all?

what is the fastest most effective way?

  1. Your best avenue would probably be sending resumes with what are called cold call cover letters.  These do no address specific job postings but positions in general.

As much company information you can provide for the letter will make it stand out so the letters should be addressed to the Human Resources or Hiring manager if possible and note how you could be an asset to their particular company such as your networking skills could be very valuable to a larger company while a smaller shop may not find it as necessary.

I am including a list of a couple web sites that can help you in your work on cold call and cover letters in general.

  2. Start by going to Monster.com.  You can search jobs in your area and most will ask you to post your resume on line or they give an email address.  Make sure you send a cover letter with your resume.  Next, get in the car and start going from place to place - dress nicely and ask for the manager of IT department.  Be prepared to fill out a lot of applications as well as leaving your resume.  With a degree in IT, it should be no time until you have a job.

    Good Luck!
